Who else can’t believe it’s May already? Where has the time flown? Well, it goes without saying that this is one of my favourite months of the year. With two bank holiday weekends, how can it not be? So here are my suggestions of what to do locally this month …

1. Why not kick off May with a Cinco De Mayo party at Barts this weekend?

2. And later this month, there’s of course Chelsea’s event of the year, The Chelsea Flower Show which will be running from 21st until 25th May. Here are some photos from two years ago and last year. Also, don’t forget that there is also Chelsea in Bloom (more photos) and Chelsea Fringe also happening this month.

3. And whilst The Chelsea Flower show is on, from Wednesday 22nd until Saturday 25th May (12pm – 8pm every day), The Botanist will be running an Oyster and Joseph Perrier Champagne Bar in Sloane Square, complete with daily performances from a string quartet. You can enjoy champagne by the glass, by the bottle, or as a cocktail.

4. The Great Gatsby will open at Curzon Chelsea on 16th May but you can buy tickets from 3rd May. I cannot wait for this film to be released and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it represents Baz Lurhmann’s return to form. Check out my post with a video interview of the director himself.

5. If you’re an aspiring designer, fashionista or budding entrepreneur, Jean Queen Donna Ida Thornton is set to hold a Careers Day on 3rd May. Donna will be available all day from 10am – 4pm to answer questions at Donna Ida Head Office near Notting Hill. Donna will be joined by a host of Donna Ida girls who will also be happy to answer any questions (including Online Content Editor Amelia Kanaris and Graphic Designer Kate Gorbunova). To join Donna and the Donna Ida girls you can visit their Head Office on Friday 3rd May from 10am – 4pm at Phoenix Brewery, 13 Bramley Road, London W10 6SP. Nearest tube is Latimer Road.

Finally, just to warn you, my posts this month will be a little thin on the ground. This month is going to be craaazzzzy. Well, maybe not that mad but enough to occupy a large chunk of my blogging time. But whilst posts trickle through in May, they will return to normal by mid-June. So keep your eyes peeled for updates on new posts on my Twitter feed or Facebook page. Enjoy May and have two awesome Bank Holidays!

So apparently it’s National Margarita Day today, which means I cannot let this Friday end without a post on Chelsea’s very own tequila bar, Tonteria.

TonteriaLocated in a basement on Sloane Square, Tonteria is a must-go for all tequila fans. My first visit was with a tequila aficionado from Mexico, so she knew exactly what she was looking for. I, on the other hand, am not such an expert on tequila brands but having tried a fair amount of margaritas around the world in my time I consider my tastebuds well-trained. 😉

TonteriaThe tequila menu at Tonteria is long; I hadn’t realised there was so much to tequila. But in the end, my friend and I decided on her favourite tipple, Don Julio, which we didn’t knock back as a shot. Instead we sipped the tequila as if we were savouring a fine whiskey; that’s how it’s done in Mexico.

Tequila at TonteriaThe margarita menu also spoils you for choice and I can wholeheartedly recommend trying something from it. The margaritas we tried had the right balance of flavours and bite.

Margarita at TonteriaA railway track also runs around the ceiling of the bar, delivering tequila shots to tables of which there are a few. But there aren’t so many tables that you could just walk in and nab one, unless it’s obviously a quiet night. So I would recommend booking a table, especially if you want to grab a seat and try Tonteria’s food menu. After around 10pm, the bar/restaurant turns into club when the tequila vibe takes on a whole other meaning, the Sloane Square way.

Happy National Margarita Day! *clink!*

The Christmas lights on Sloane Square and along Sloane Street are now decorating our wintry evenings and the Christmas shopping season has officially begun!

To further celebrate the coming of Christmas, you will also be able to experience a touch of Quintessentially British Christmas Shopping on Sloane Street with some butler service.

On the first three Thursdays of this month: 6th, 13th and 20th December 2012, Cadogan Estates will be adding to the shimmer and elegance of Sloane Street with a host of traditionally uniformed British butlers. Lining either side of the street between Basil and Pont Streets, the butlers will be on hand to open car doors, guide visitors into stores and provide information about Sloane Street’s luxury retailers – whilst dressed in full uniform and holding umbrellas.

Cadogan has also partnered with HR Owen and Maybourne Hotel Group to provide a fleet of chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce cars, which will collect guests from Maybourne Hotel Group’s Berkeley hotel and drive them to Sloane Street.

This service will be available by appointment only to guests of the Berkeley during December, and will allow hotel guests to enjoy themselves on Sloane Street while their chauffer waits to drive them and their shopping back to the Berkeley.

Isn’t this a wonderful treat?

Sloane Street’s Quintessentially British Christmas Shopping will take place between 2pm-6pm on Thursday 6, 13 and 20 December 2012.
