London-Nail-Salons

It’s all in the detail any Virgo will tell you and today I decided to address this need for some colour in my day, especially after yesterday’s post.  So as I made my way along the King’s Road – having popped into Waterstone’s …

King's Road Waterstones

… to pick up Amelia Freer’s much anticipated cookbook – (I’ve pretty much bought most of the healthy cookbooks and apart from Honestly Healthy’s, Amelia Freer’s Eat. Nourish. Glow. has been the only book I’ve been really into. And until today I’ve been longing for a recipe bible to be published. It was only by chance I discovered Cook. Nourish. Glow. when I popped into Waterstone’s to have a browse. I’m so so excited to try out her recipes. 🙂 … ) ….

I digress.

And so after the serendipitous find, I headed to The Nail Boutique inside Chelsea Farmers Market to have my nails done.

The Nail Boutique

The sign of a good place are its regulars and The Nail Boutique has plenty, which is one of the reasons I like popping in here. The cash only payments have only caught me out once. And as well as good manicures that come with relaxing hand massages, the friendly staff too, it’s just another excuse to step into one of my favourite Chelsea nooks: Chelsea Farmers Market.

The Nail Boutique

After my nails were done and as I headed back to the office, my thoughts started to riff on how I spent the last hour: in order for me to feel good, I wanted to make sure my nails looked good. And in order to have the capacity to look good, I needed feel good in the first place.

That’s something I picked up from Amelia Freer’s last book in a roundabout way. Going for the quick fixes (in terms of coffee and sugar binges) when I’m in need of a quick energy boost really doesn’t work. Carefully choosing the right ingredients on the other hand does work. Otherwise it becomes a vicious cycle of highs and lows with little energy for not much else.

It’s only day two of not drinking coffee or grabbing a sugary snack but I’m already astounded at the amount of extra energy I seem to have. It now means I can keep on top of looking after myself because right now – just past 9.30pm and after a busy day at work and running around after Little Man – I still feel full of beans.

I can only hope it lasts.

Chelsea Girl

A few weeks ago I met Charlie McCorry and Claire Aggarwal who own a mobile beauty company called Perfect 10. We were at an event at Monica Vinader on Duke of York Square when they told me about their company, which left me very intrigued to find out more.

After all, being a hands-on mother of a toddler whilst running my own business and training for a relay-duathlon means my day is determined by priorities. And well, when it comes to finding the time to step into a nail bar, I usually call around to see who can fit me in when I think I have time between the office and picking up Little Man from the nursery, if I’m lucky.

So when I was invited to try Perfect 10’s services, I jumped at the chance. And whilst the sensible option was to enjoy a beauty treatment one evening in the comfort of my own home, I decided to do what most mothers apparently seem to be doing with Perfect 10 and to see if I could squeeze them into my day.

The beauty therapist (I feel bad that I’ve forgotten her name because she was so lovely. She was both friendly and very professional.) arrived on time, having parked somewhere close to my office. And when she arrived, we hit it off straight away. I was booked in for a manicure and some threading, all of which I was very happy with. The hand massage with the manicure was also a real treat, especially as I knew I wouldn’t be going anywhere for a while after it had finished.Perfect 10 Mobile BeautyDuring my treatments I asked about the type of clients Perfect 10 seemed to come across and the variety is wide. From mothers squeezing in some pampering time whilst the baby is sleeping to other worker bees enjoying some time-out when in the office. You can also find Perfect 10 at hen parties, any parties, and even festivals. Their cross-section of clientele is impressive.

As for me, I’m really pleased to have finally discovered them. I think they’ll make my life a lot easier now because not only do they save on travelling time but they are also reliable and friendly. A 10/10 all round.

Chelsea Girl

Whilst I’ve been acclimatising to my role as a newbie mummy, plenty has been happening on the King’s Road. For example, last week saw the launch party for Trilogy’s latest incarnation on Duke of York Square.

Trilogy Chelsea

Trilogy is now bigger – almost four times bigger.

Trilogy ChelseaIt has seven fitting rooms downstairs and even a customer bathroom. The jeans are on gold shelves to create the illusion of floating denim, as if they were appearing in a dream.

It was a pity to miss what looked like a fun evening of manis by Nails Inc., bubbles …

… as well as mingling with some of the fabulous guests.

But as I step back into the real world, it’s good to know that at least I’ll have my Born on King’s Road tee to enjoy wearing!

I am so excited about writing this post – one just for the ladies! If you fancy feeling spoiled for an afternoon and spending quality time with your girlfriends, then you must read on.

Bar Galante Sunday Sanctuary with Bliss SpaThe venue is Bar Galante, which some of you may know is one of my favourite bars in Chelsea and this free women-only event includes treatments from Bliss Spa, who are normally located across the road. You can see their front door from the bar if you sit by one of the windows.

When you arrive, you receive a pair of slippers which you can wear in the bar (a lot of girls did) as well as a goodie bag with Bliss products.

Bilss Spa Goodie BagDuring the afternoon, the Bliss staff are on hand to provide massages and manicures with Essie polish.

Bliss Spa ManicureAnd as well as these spa treatments, there are screens placed around the bar with films playing …

Bar Galante - TV Screen… which you can listen to with the headphones provided. They showed Friends With Benefits and a Ryan Reynolds movie (sorry, I’m not sure what it’s called). In other words, a chick flick and eye candy were provided. 😉

Bar Galante Sunday SanctuaryWhen you arrive at the bar, you also receive a free champagne cocktail. And thereafter, there is a special Sunday Sanctuary cocktail menu which you can order from. The cocktails include Classic Bellini; Breakfast Martini; and Bloody Mary Martini (£10-£12), as well as non-alcoholic cocktails such as Strawberry & Basil Lemonade; Green Martini and Berry Blast (£4.25). I also saw groups of friends order bottles of wine between them. And if you’re feeling peckish, there is also a bar snack menu to order food from.

Bar Galante - CocktailsSome ladies were sitting around and chatting whilst others sat back and watched the movies. Others were enjoying their spa treatments, either listening to the music playing in the bar or whilst watching a film with their headphones on. The whole atmosphere was very chilled and indulgent. In other words it really was the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon in February.

If you’re interested in booking a table for you and your girlfriends, all you have to do is email RSVP@BARGALANTE.COM. There are two time slots: 1pm and 3pm and like I said, this is a free event. So I just have to ask, what’s stopping you? 😉

Happy New Year everyone and apologies for the delay in uploading this post. I’ve been on holiday and upon returning I discovered that my blog was down. All seems back to normal so here are my top five don’t miss suggestions for January 2013. Let’s start as we mean to go on on!

1. The Hollywood Costume exhibition at the V&A ends on 27th January 2013. For any movie fan, this is a must-see. Not only do you get to admire iconic costumes which defined your favourite screen characters but you are also presented with an insight into the creative process through which these costumes were conceived. From excerpts of screenplays to multimedia presentations of actors and directors talking between themselves, I would recommend giving yourself time to move between the displays. There is a lot to take in!

Hollywood Exhibition

2. More vintage Hollywood. Bob Willoughby: The Silver Age of Hollywood exhibition at Proud Chelsea ends on 13th January 2013. To find out why I think this exhibition is unmissable, have a read of my review post here.

3. You don’t believe in Dry January? Then don’t miss out on Embargo’s Season 1 – Episode 2: What exams night on 8th January 2013! Click here to find out more details.

4. There’s nothing better to help a girl get through the January blues than by feeling pampered. This month (and next), The Hand and Foot Spa are offering 25% savings on their Spa and Luxury Manicure and Pedicure treatments. The offer applies from Monday to Wednesday only.

5. If you cycle and live in Kensington & Chelsea, don’t miss your chance to have your say about cycling events and campaigns you’d like to see in the area. Bikeminded, who were responsible for the fabulous cupcake cycle tour and the styling Pinterest competition in conjunction with Harrods, will be running a focus group on 23rd January 2013 and they are looking for locals to take part. If you do, you will receive a cash thank you for your time. See Bikeminded’s blog for more info!
