What’s On in June 2019

Summer in the city’s always a delight. I’m already excited for cocktails on sunny terraces, dining al-fresco and all the family time summer holidays will bring. The fun certainly isn’t all over now that the Chelsea Flower Show is finished for another year. With Father’s Day and the official start of summer just around the corner, there’s plenty to do up, down and around the King’s Road this June.

Father’s Day Burgers at Bluebird

Head down to the iconic Chelsea stalwart, Bluebird, on June 16th and treat dad to a meal. On the menu is their British prime-fed Bluebird Burger with a pint of Asahi, at a special price of £15 in celebration of Father’s Day. Then, tastebuds sated, take a seat on their sprawling street-side terrace to soak up the atmosphere of the King’s Road and people-watch to your heart’s content.

Special offer is available at Bluebird 350 King’s Road on Sunday 15thJune, for £15.

Eileen Fisher Exhibition

If an evening of art and fashion is what you fancy, Eileen Fisher at 80 King’s Road can definitely oblige. The store has partnered with Contemporary Collective to showcase artist Sophie Derrick’s latest work, as part of Chelsea and Kensington Art Weekend 2019.  Sophie – who skilfully blends self-portraiture with sculptural elements to create her unique style – will be there in person on the evening of 27thJune to discuss her work, while the Eileen Fisher team will talk attendees through layering, sustainability and more.

Call 0207 589 2977 to book. If you can’t make it on the night, you can still catch all of Derrick’s work on display there until 30thJune.

Chelsea’s Annual Summer Fete

Start summer off with a celebration at Chelsea’s Annual Summer Fete, from 10am-6pm on Saturday 22ndJune. Whether it’s an outdoor yoga class, flower crown workshop or traditional fete games on Duke of York Square that takes your fancy, the King’s Road will be awash with food, drink and plenty of activities in this free summer extravaganza. With something on offer for all the family – from roaming musicians or Austin J40 pedal-car racing on Duke of York Square running track, bring family, friends and visitors to soak up the atmosphere (and, hopefully, some sunshine). Then, round it all off with a drink from Pavilion Wine’s bar, or Hans’ Bar & Grill’s cocktail stand, and sample some of the many culinary delights on offer from the King’s Road’s finest. From 10am-6pm on Saturday 22ndJune. Free entry.

Beyond The Road at The Saatchi Gallery

Lose yourself in a multi-sensory world led by sound. This immersive exhibition merges the worlds of visual art, music and film with a reconstruction of audio and visual elements from the UNKLE albums The Road: Part Iand The Road: Part II / Lost Highway. Running on a continuous loop as you explore multiple rooms across the gallery’s top floor, sound has been designed especially for the space and is intended as the perfect complement to the works from contemporary filmmakers and artists on show.

Exhibition runs from Wednesday 12thJune at The Saatchi Gallery. Opening hours: Monday – Sunday 10am-5.45pm (last entry 5pm). Find out more at www.beyondtheroad.saatchigallery.com
