I was recently invited to Maze Grill for their Eve of Beef supper club which started making its way round Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants since its inception on Park Walk. I couldn’t make the inaugural evening but thankfully I managed to catch up with it at Royal Hospital Road.
This was my first visit to a Maze Grill which headlines itself as a steak and sushi restaurant, which are two of my favourite foodie things ever.
When I arrived, there was a choice of cocktails to pick from and I was very tempted by the whisky topped with a strip of bacon that was also a sign of things to come: meat, meat and more meat!
But when I took my seat and waited for Suze to arrive, I was also reminded that there would be sushi on the menu with the sight of chopsticks at the table.
The supper club kicked off with these tasty canapés …
… and when Suze arrived, I had to try the other (more milky) cocktail being offered at the start of the evening.
The first dish on the menu was a sharing platter that arrived with croquettes, smoked pork ribs, BBQ glazed chicken wings which came with a homemade Jack Daniels sauce – and soft shell crab sushi. All of which were fantastic …
… as was the lovely chilled glass of white wine that accompanied the first course.
The next platter to arrive included plenty of meat and some onion rings. Admittedly Suze and I didn’t finish everything – the lovely girls that we are, we brought some back to our other halves in doggy bags because there was a lot to enjoy. The ribs, the steak and the pulled pork were all very good: juicy in texture and great in taste – and so much of it.
On the side, we also enjoyed chips, potato salad, pickles and …
… macaroni cheese …
… with a gorgeous glass of red too.
And to end the evening, we had the most wonderful Bourbon Drunk Monkey bread pudding, which I completely devoured as well as …
… the beautiful dessert wine …
… and to end the evening, a very lovely soya flat white.
Suze and I were invited as guests but at £60 a head plus a bit more for two levels of wine pairings: unusual and prestige, you can probably understand why I recommend Maze Grill’s supper club. If you’re a meat and seafood lover, there is plenty and I mean plenty for you to enjoy. On top of that, the downstairs of Maze Grill on Royal Hospital Road is a very easy place to while away the hours catching up with a friend. Very lovely indeed.
The next Eve of Beef supper club is back at Maze Grill Park Walk on Tuesday 19th January 2016. The menu looks slightly different. Here is a link to check it out.
Maze does a fantastic steak, so this sounds amazing!
