It had been a while since I was last at Hakkasan and last week I visited the Mayfair branch for the first time. Like its original counterpart on Hanway Place, the interior is simple yet sumptuous as is everything on the menu.
I was being taken for lunch and without the luxury of time the unanimous decision was to order an array of dim sum dishes to share as well as some soup because it was cold outside.
I had the sweetcorn and lobster soup …
And our dim sum choices included mostly seafood dishes …
It should go without saying but each plate was as delectable as the next. The simplicity with each dish was matched by an effortlessly enjoyable experience. A true sign a restaurant knows what it is doing.
But the great food isn’t the only reason why I would unreservedly recommend visiting Hakkasan – the cocktails are also to die for, especially the Black Forest martini.
A martini for lunch did you say? Yes, well – sometimes it has to be done. And to be honest, a martini like this one feels more like heaven in a glass than anything else. To me, it is the ultimate dessert cocktail. It is as sublime as it is smooth. It also isn’t too sweet and yet, it has all the flavours you would expect. It is divine.
Last week’s lunch was a lovely treat and it made the rest of the day all the more rosy.
