The Ship in Wandsworth has reopened tonight, with its outside area reopening on Friday (8th March 2013). I went along to the preview last night and whilst I didn’t take many photos (there was plenty of catching up with folks to do); I can try to give you a quick rundown of what the renovations mean for this popular riverside pub.
The main part of the pub has had a new lick of paint and looks very good for it whilst the dining area has been extended to include an extra room that could also work for private dining (see photo below).
Outside, the bar has been extended too. Before, the outdoor bar could fit three to four bar staff. Now the new bar will be able to fit ten! This will obviously mean not having to wait at the bar for as long as before. The entire outside is being revamped and it looks like there’ll be a lot more space to move around in. The barbecue area also looks very cool.
All of this will undoubtedly be ready for the opening of the outside area on Friday and with spring clearly here, all I can say is what great timing!
Last night, there was also plenty of food coming from the kitchen. All of which was very good but I have to say hands down, my faves were the burger and chocolate mousse. Seriously, you have to try the chocolate mousse when you come here. I don’t think I’ve ever had chocolate mousse that was warm before and with such deep flavours – and the texture? I want more!
If you live in Chelsea and have never been to The Ship (though I think most of my readers have), it’s really not that difficult to get to. The C3 bus from the King’s Road takes you straight there and I promise, it’s definitely worth making a trip down. The Ship is a fabulous local pub by the river, with a great atmosphere, food and crowd. What’s not to like?
