Battersea Park Fireworks 2012

Remember, remember the fifth of November. I hope everyone had an amazing fireworks weekend!

I almost didn’t go to this year’s fireworks display at Battersea Park. The last few years had been ok but last year’s display seemed a little disappointing. It felt like it was too short, the music didn’t really grab me and the park seemed overcrowded. So there were talks of escaping to the country this year.

But when I heard that tickets were not going to be sold on the night to avoid overcrowding, I thought perhaps this year’s event would be better – and it so was.

Whilst watching the fireworks, there was actually space to move around. The music was also an improvement. The Muse finale brought me back to the previous week and was the closest thing to reliving their astounding gig at the O2 arena so far. The laser light show before the fireworks was also reminiscent of Muse’s live spectacle.

And it actually felt like the organisers were more interested in giving ticket buyers a worthwhile experience rather than chasing ticket sales. So for the first time in a long while, I left Battersea Park feeling somewhat elated and satisfied.

Here are some photos from Saturday night and of course I had to include pics of my favourite bridge, which I took whilst walking along Chelsea Embankment. As usual, it was such a pretty walk.

I thought this photo (below) was actually quite spooky.

Once the bonfire was lit, we stopped feeling the cold and it became SO hot. The guy next to me took his coat and jumper off whilst one girl had to walk away. You could feel the heat on your face and for half an hour, it was gorgeous to feel so toasty outdoors – even if I did have to turn away a few times to stop myself feeling as if my face were about to melt.

Look at the red glow on my face.

And for the main spectacle!

Heading back to the King’s Road took slightly longer but not as long as it could have taken. The police gave us pedestrians right of way as we crossed over from the embankment, much to the frustration of the traffic. Lots of car horns beeping. Oops.

So where did you see the fireworks this year? Were you at Battersea Park too? x

Actually I didn’t make it into the park but got some great shots from Chelsea Embankment (posted on Flickr – ‘Battersea Park Fireworks 2012’). May be I got a shot of you walking over Albert Bridge ).
