Shrove Tuesday: The Chelsea Way

Just as I finally ease myself out of a guilt-ridden last six weeks of supposed detox – which I clearly attempted with more talking than walking – it’s already time to give up some other delectable pleasure in the name of Lent.

Still, there’s always Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day to theoretically allow us one more day of indulgence … Christmas all over again!

True, Chelsea has its favourite pancake destinations but where else can you enjoy a delicious pancake feast with some of the best local cocktails on hand: The Botanist of course!

On 21st February, pancakes will be available at The Botanist for breakfast: American style blueberry pancakes to be precise, served with crispy bacon and  lashings of maple syrup.

And for lunch or dinner, crêpes made with poppy seeds and filled with foie gras, wild mushrooms and cauliflower purée will be on offer. The sweeter options include a blood orange crêpe Suzette; a caramlised apple crêpe with vanilla ice cream and Calvados syrup; and a banana and chocolate crêpe with pistachio praline.

During the afternoon, you can have a crêpe and some champagne with your afternoon tea of finger filled sandwiches and scones.

The selling point for me is that the entire Shrove Tuesday menu has been designed by the fabulous pastry chef Boyne Kleynhans who is responsible for my favourite red velvet cupcake ever! I wrote about it here.

So whilst I haven’t tried these particular pancakes, I have tasted the efforts of its chef and if the red velvets are anything to go by, Shrove Tuesday will indeed be a fantastic feast!

  1. Do you think they’d mind if I stayed all day??
These sound seriously gorgeous – I was reading your post out loud to my partner in the kitchen and he shouted for me to shut up because it was making him too hungry!
Next time we’re in London, I know where we’ll be going for lunch ;)

Haha, doesn’t it just sound like an all-dayer? Pancakes, shopping, crêpe, shopping … Plus the bubbles and cocktails. Ideal day! ;) x
